This 5 day course is suitable for beginners and also for those with some experience who are looking for the confidence and knowledge to take on a project of their own such as a woodland cabin, gazebo or veranda.
The course is mostly practical learning with hand tools but there is a fair amount of theory which we will return to throughout the week.
We will begin with an overview including the design and planning of an eye catching and functional structure through to the selection of timbers, joint types and placement.
Under the marquee in the meadow we will set out the timbers (laying up), and you will learn techniques that can be carried over
to most timber framing projects. We will cover scribing with a plumb bob and spirit level; marking out and cutting joints and offset or draw pegging where the oak pegs pull the joints tight.
On the final day we aim to raise the frame we have built together and review the week spending some time on troubleshooting and potential difficulties. The frame we are building on this course will be a part of the new honesty shop where makers can display and sell their work here at Brook House Woods.
